Description

Platteklip Gorge is the oldest and most historically significant route up Table Mountain. It follows a natural ravine that has been used for centuries as a direct passage to the top. Historically, this route dates back to the early 1500s when António de Saldanha is believed to have led one of the first recorded ascents of Table Mountain in 1503 via this very gorge. Long before formal paths were built, indigenous Khoi people are also thought to have used similar natural routes on the mountain for navigation and resource gathering.
