Take Back Our Mountains
Bringing freedom & safety back to our beautiful mountains...
Take Back Our Mountains (TBOM) was established in January 2018 by Taahir Osman in response to the alarming rise in crime on Table Mountain. A series of violent attacks and tragic incidents had begun to affect the central sections of the mountain, particularly along the Kalk Bay mountain range.
One Saturday morning, Taahir Osman responded to an emergency at Silvermine Gate 2, where nine hikers had been brutally attacked. While assisting with the evacuation, loading injured hikers into ambulances and coordinating with the rescue helicopter it became evident that the victims were close friends and regular hiking companions.

Table Mountain National Park is a
marvel of nature, recognized as one of the seven
wonders of the natural world and designated
as a World Heritage Site. Encompassing 2700
hectares, this distinctive national park stands
as an open-access urban park, presenting us
with various challenges, notably the occurrence
of crime in our mountainous areas.
To ensure the safety of your visit to Cape Town,
Take Back Our Mountains has compiled the
following list of essential guidelines:.
Current areas require vigilance, and it is
advisable to utilize local guides or participate in
organized hiking events. You can discover such
events through Hiking Cape Town, Take Back Our

From Peak to Prosperity: The Rise of TBOM Tourism
The Take Back Our Mountains (TBOM) initiative has evolved from a grassroots safety movement into a flourishing model for sustainable community tourism. What began as a mission to reclaim public hiking trails from crime and neglect has transformed into a structured tourism ecosystem that prioritizes local empowerment, environmental stewardship, and safe adventure.
TBOM Tourism, a division of the Take Back Our Mountains non-profit, offers safe, private chauffeur-driven tours and guided hikes in Cape Town. Based in Cape Town, they provide airport transfers, Peninsula tours, and secure, guided hiking experiences, with a portion of proceeds supporting community safety initiatives.
TBOM Tourism is a prime example of Regenerative Tourism. It doesn’t just “visit” a place; it leaves the destination and the people living near it better off than they were before. It proves that when communities take back their mountains, they also take back their future.
