Elsies Peak Hike

Elsie’s Peak is a short but rewarding hike located above Glencairn, offering sweeping views over False Bay, Fish Hoek, and the surrounding coastline. The trail starts from a residential area and steadily climbs along a well-worn path with some rocky sections as you near the top. The hike is 2–3 km return and usually takes about 1–2 hours, making it a great option for beginners or those looking for a quick outdoor activity. It’s considered easy to moderate, though the incline can still get your heart rate up. Elsie’s Peak is named after Elsie, believed to have been a young woman who lived in the area in the early 1900s. According to local stories, she would regularly walk up the mountain, and over time the peak became associated with her name. The paths themselves developed informally as residents and locals used the mountain for walking and access, rather than as a formally constructed hiking route. Over time, it became a popular community trail due to its accessibility and scenic views. Today, Elsie’s Peak remains a favourite among locals for its peaceful atmosphere, rich coastal scenery, and connection to the area’s local heritage, offering a more relaxed and less crowded alternative to the larger Table Mountain hikes.
